Convicted felon #SteveBannon, White House’s chief strategist for the first seven months of #DonaldTrump‘s first administration before Trump fired him.
#Bannon‘s criminal history includes the following major cases:
1. Domestic Violence (1996): Bannon was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, battery, and dissuading a witness in 1996. In January 1996, his then-wife, Mary Louise Piccard (also referred to as Mary Piccard), accused him of physically assaulting her during an argument over finances. According to a Santa Monica Police Department report: She claimed Bannon grabbed her by the neck and wrist “violently.” She reported that he smashed a phone when she tried to call 911. A responding officer observed red marks on her neck and wrist. Bannon was subsequently charged with three misdemeanors: domestic violence, battery, and dissuading a witness (related to allegations that he threatened or instructed her not to testify).
2. Federal Border Wall Case, “We Build the Wall” Fraud (2020 Indictment – Pardoned). Fraud Case (2020–2025). Accusation: In August 2020, federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York charged Bannon with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering regarding the same “We Build the Wall” project. Outcome: President Donald Trump issued a full pardon to Bannon in January 2021, ending that federal case. Federal Prosecution (2020): Bannon was first indicted on federal charges in August 2020 for allegedly defrauding donors to the “We Build the Wall” fundraising campaign. He was accused of diverting over $1 million for personal use. Federal Pardon: President Donald Trump pardoned Bannon in January 2021, effectively ending the federal case before it reached trial. New York State Case (2022–2025): Because presidential pardons do not apply to state crimes, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin #Bragg brought similar state charges in September 2022. Guilty Plea (February 2025): On February 11, 2025, Bannon pleaded guilty to one felony count of a scheme to defraud. Sentence: He received a three-year conditional discharge and avoided further jail time. The conditions of his sentence include: A ban on serving as an officer or director for any charitable organization or nonprofit with assets in New York. A prohibition against using or selling any data from the “We Build the Wall” donors.
3. Money Laundering and Conspiracy (2022): Following the federal pardon, New York state prosecutors brought new charges in September 2022, including money laundering and conspiracy. These charges were ultimately resolved through his February 2025 guilty plea to the lesser charge of scheming to defraud.
